FOOTBALL UNDER COVER

Yesterday I watched the documentary Football undercover, a wonderful report on how "an amateur female soccer team from Berlin goes on a nerve-wracking journey trying to carry out the first female soccer match in the history of Iran." (www.imdb.com). My favourite scenes are those during the soccer match outside of the stadium. Only women are allowed in and so officials, husbands, brothers and journalists, all men, gather outside of the stadium. They can hear the(ir) women cheering, but they don't know what's going on. Meanwhile, inside the stadium, Teheran women are thoroughly enjoying a match of football and let go of all restrictions they normally have to bear in live. They sing, they dance, they cheer and some of them let go of their head scarves. It draws an unusual picture of Iranian women doing what they want, leaving men powerless for 2x45 minutes...
